The Story.
The Town of Collingwood has worked to preserve and highlight its historic downtown core; working with business owners and the community alike to ensure economic prosperity while maintaining the roots of our small town.
The Trott Block will approach the restoration of 74-76 Hurontario Street with a similar mindset.
The Trott Block’s name was coined when the Trott family moved to Collingwood to start their business, “block” was once used to describe buildings. When Samuel Trott and his son Henry first arrived in Collingwood in 1862 they came prepared to start their furniture business. However, the name didn’t stick until 1881 when the Trott’s tore down the old wooden building and erected the “block” you see today.
The Trott’s supplied goods to all classes — tins for sailors, luxury fabrics for the upper class, and even coffins. The three-storey building was a hub of commerce for decades with six generations of Trott’s leading the way.
Since then, the block has been an array of businesses including a pharmacy, bank, undertakers, and a dentist office. Now, The Trott Block, with John Miller and Sam Goodman leading the way, will continue to provide all classes with opportunity. Whether that is starting your own business, leasing office space, or planning an event for the ages, The Trott Block has a space for you.

Monty’s Goals:
Maintain historical integrity
Monty, the architect leading the restoration, plans on maintaining the historical integrity of the building with the help of Dr. John Miller. Dr. Sam Goodman, and the Collingwood Museum.
Emphasis on Heritage
By maintaining the exterior facade of the building Monty hopes to pay homage to the heritage of The Trott Block and Historic Downtown Collingwood.
Brick by Brick
Brick will be a recurring design element throughout the restoration with the intent to include the past in the present.
